Aurora Studio Announces Japanese Folk-Horror Game “Revenant of Tsushima”
Hong Kong indie developer Aurora Studio officially reveals
Revenant of Tsushima,
a first-person Japanese folk-horror game set along the Edo-period Tokaido.
Hong Kong-based independent developer Aurora Studio has formally announced Revenant of Tsushima, a first-person Japanese folk-horror adventure set along the Tōkaidō during the Edo period.
Players awaken as Tsushima Mewa, a shrine maiden released from centuries of confinement. While exploring shrines, graveyards and forgotten roads, Mewa must uncover spirits hidden from ordinary sight, seal them inside protective charms and purify them at ritual altars. This three-stage cycle forms the heart of the game.
A folk-horror journey shaped by risk and ritual
The spirits carried by the player are not conventional rewards. As more souls are collected, supernatural pressure and environmental disturbances intensify. Players must decide whether to continue exploring while carrying greater risk, or retreat to a safer location and complete a purification ritual.
Warm interiors provide contrast to the game’s increasingly unstable supernatural spaces.
The story centres on Tsushima Mewa, whose memory and humanity have been damaged by her long sealing, and Tōjō Seiji, a young companion with knowledge of rituals and yōkai. Seiji serves as a human anchor as Mewa is gradually pulled toward an existence beyond ordinary humanity.
The game’s yōkai and vengeful spirits are designed as more than enemies. Figures including the Kejorō, Daitengu, Yuki-onna and Umibōzu
are connected to local landscapes, worship, family histories and experiences of loss along the Tōkaidō.
Graveyards, shrines and old roads form the core of the game’s exploration spaces.
Core gameplay: See, capture, purify
Ether Sight: reveal spirits and traces that cannot be perceived through ordinary vision.
Soul Capture: contain wandering spirits inside protective charms while managing rising supernatural pressure.
Soul Purification: return to ritual altars to resolve accumulated danger and progress safely.

The short playable build planned for summer 2026 Roadshow will introduce this full ritual loop while players explore a graveyard and the surrounding shrine grounds…
Playable in Hong Kong and Taipei this summer
Aurora Studio plans to exhibit a short playable version of Revenant of Tsushima at the following events:
· CP22 at ACGHK Creative Paradise 2026, Hong Kong | 24-28 July 2026
· CWT-73, Taipei | 8-9 August 2026
The summer demo will focus on exploration around a shrine and cemetery area.
Aurora Studio is also actively considering an appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2026. Possible formats include a playable showcase, video presentation, participation in an indie area or a joint exhibition with partner companies. No TGS appearance has been formally confirmed, and further details will be announced once plans are finalised.
From Project Numazu to a new original IP
Aurora Studio previously developed OMSI 2 Add-on Project Numazu, which recreated the streets, public transport network and bus culture of Numazu, Shizuoka. The title was published by German publisher Aerosoft and featured by outlets including 4Gamer.net & Bahamut GNN, as well as the official Numazu tourism portal.
Coverage highlighted the Hong Kong developer’s on-site research visits, its presentation of the project to Numazu city officials, and the level of environmental detail used to recreate the city. The project also gained industry exposure through Tokyo Game Show 2025 and the SIGGRAPH Asia 2025 Game Program, extending its visibility beyond the core bus-simulation market. It was additionally showcased in a promotional stream by Nishiura Meme, a Numazu City-recognized local VTuber and tourism ambassador, strengthening its connection with the local community and extending its visibility beyond the core bus-simulation market.
A promotional stream by hololive DEV_IS / ReGLOSS VTuber Juufuutei Raden surpassed 67,000 archived views and received more than 5,600 likes, demonstrating the studio’s ability to connect a locally researched Japanese setting with a wider online audience.
Revenant of Tsushima expands Aurora Studio’s focus from regional reconstruction into original folk-horror worldbuilding.
“Revenant of Tsushima is built around the feeling of carrying something unseen. Every spirit collected changes the journey, and every ritual asks the player to choose between curiosity and safety.”
